The Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year or the Spring Festival, is an important festival for the Chinese. Not to be confused with Jan 1, this traditional holiday is celebrated based on the Chinese calendar and lasts for 15 days.
During this time, reunion dinners ensue plus the giving of money-filled red packets by the old to the young, feasting, merry-making and of course gambling*! It’s also believed that greetings of good fortune, happiness and longevity should be uttered when house visiting relatives and friends.
